Prostitution, or “the sale of virginity,” indicates poverty and a low standard of living

A 23-year-old Tajik girl put up for sale her virginity on the “First night” website, an international online auction for $ 10,000.

The news caused a violent reaction on social networks. Most condemn the girl’s actions as absolutely immoral, indignant, write that she shames Tajikistan. But at the same time, there are people who understand that this story is just an iceberg in the ocean of problems in which our country is mired. The main reason for this phenomenon is the 30-year mediocre rule of Rakhmonov(President of Republic of Tajikistan since 1994) and, as a result, poverty and poverty in the country, a decrease in the moral appearance of citizens.

The number of women in prostitution had increased in recent years and there had also been cases of Tajik women forced into prostitution abroad.

Our government seems to be actively fighting this phenomenon, but only by ridiculous and ineffective methods: law enforcement agencies conduct regular raids on the capture of women engaged in prostitution, fine them, conduct conversations with them and their parents. The fight against this shameful phenomenon has been brought to absurdity and a gross invasion of the personal life of citizens: without a marriage certificate in love, it is impossible to calmly walk around the city in the evening, meet in the park, it is impossible to go to a male friend in a woman’s hotel room, in such cases you can always expect the appearance of law enforcement officials, detention, clarification of circumstances, a fine just in case.

Rakhmonov censures his citizens for choosing the wrong path and intensely pretends that he is not to blame for anything. He always has this: food prices soared – drought is to blame, no electricity – coronovirus is to blame, etc.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, we gained independence. With our richest resources, we could reach unrealistic heights, but the current government works only for itself and its clan. That is what makes us the poorest country in Central Asia and the post-Soviet space. According to some reports, about two million Tajik men are working in a foreign country, while they face a lot of problems and conditions unsuitable for life, in difficult conditions they are trying to earn not only for their family, but also for the whole country. After all, migrant remittances account for about half of Tajikistan’s GDP per year. There is another important aspect, being far from their family, fathers lose control over the upbringing of the future generation .And then the authorities accuse the parents of improperly raising their daughters.

In addition, many of our men, leaving for work, forget that at home they are waiting for their family and children, create new families. According to statistics, it is Tajiks who occupy the honorary first place, among all foreigners, in the number of marriages with citizens of the Russian Federation. What then remains to be done to women who have spent their entire lives dependent on their husband’s earnings? And unfortunately, most of these women do not have education, at best 9 grades, and there are only 4. And children must be fed, there is no help from the state and goverment, and the only way to survive for these women is prostitution.

The sale of virginity and prostitution are alien to the mentality of the Tajik people, both morally and in terms of Islamic law.

Of course, the main reason why women and girls engage in such activities is poverty and the collapse of the economy. But there is another important point, and this is also the fault of the government, the exclusion of women from religious education and the inaccessibility of education in general for many of them. If girls were raised from an early age in the spirit of the sacred religion of Islam, they would not dare to set foot on this path. The wrong religious policies and propaganda of Western culture and way of life by the Rakhmonov regime, the immorality of the authorities themselves, government officials and representatives laid the foundation for the growth of this shameful phenomenon. If you pay attention to the education system, for example, in schools in Tajikistan introduce the subject of “Islamic ethics,” then this will contribute to the correct formation of the moral qualities of not only girls, but also boys.

The Group of 24 wants to draw public attention to the problem of the morality of women and girls in Tajikistan, calls for combating this phenomenon, but not fines and denunciation. We must properly raise our children in the spirit of our traditions, closely intertwined with the Islamic religion, we must do everything possible to ensure that our daughters receive education, we must support morally and, if possible, financially women who are in difficult situations.

We must build our future, but without Rakhmonov and his clan!
