The Bloody Events of Badakhshan.Operation Rushan and the massacre of unarmed people

The Bloody Events of Badakhshan.

Operation Rushan and the massacre of unarmed people.

After a fierce clash of law enforcement agencies with protesters, on May 16 in the city of Khorog, dissatisfied with the policies of the dictatorial government of Rakhmonov gathered on May 17 in the Rushan region and blocked the movement of the military from Dushanbe to Khorog.

On May 18, under the guise of an “anti-terrorist operation,” armed government forces attacked unarmed residents of the Rushan region, killing 9 people, including one soldier, 24 people, including 13 servicemen, were injured, and 70 people were arrested. However, other unofficial sources report that 25 people died.

To cover up its next crime, Rakhmonov’s criminal government accused the disgruntled of “membership in criminal groups” and “armed struggle,” and residents said people took to the streets only to protect their rights.
According to residents of the center of Rushansky district, employees of the internal affairs bodies went into people’s houses and took all the men with them for interrogation. They were looking for those who wanted to gather in the center of the district on May 17 in protest.

On May 31, during an “operation” in the Rushan district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, law enforcement agencies brutally killed five local residents and arrested one person. The Ministry of Internal Affairs attributed this to the fight against “criminal and terrorist groups” and said that law enforcement agencies found weapons and ammunition at the scene. However, all these dramatizations were the work of the authorities themselves.

With these killings of innocent people, Rakhmonov’s repressive and criminal power sought to intimidate free-thinking and true-minded people and extinguish the fire in their hearts.
