Arrest of Group 24 member Bilal Kurbonaliev in Germany for extradition to his homeland.
On October 24 this year, a member of the political movement “Group 24”, Bilal Kurbonaliev, was arrested by German police for extradition to his homeland.
Bilal Kurbonaliev began his struggle with the political regime of Rakhmonov in Russia. Then he had to leave for Ukraine, as Russia began illegally extraditing Rakhmonov’s political opponents to Tajikistan.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he left for Germany and requested political asylum in that country.
Since 2023, Bilal Kurbonaliyev is a member of the Group of 24 political movement. He participated in a rally in front of the Tajik embassy in Germany this September, when Rakhmonov was there on an official visit.
Separately, it should be noted that according to article 24 of the German Law, regardless of whether a person has asylum in Ukraine or not, he should have received refugee status in Germany if there is a risk of persecution when he returns to his homeland. However, due to the repeal of Article 24 of this Law and his lack of asylum status in Ukraine, the German police arrested Bilal Kurbonaliyev and he faces extradition to Tajikistan.
At the moment, the political movement “Group 24” has hired a lawyer to defend Bilal Kurbonaliyev.
