Muhammadbakir Muhammadbakirov, known as Bakir, was a retired colonel of the Tajik Border Guard Service and was popularly known for his truthfulness and justice. He was one of the commanders of the armed forces of the Opposition Union, who, after signing a peace agreement between the Tajik Opposition Union and the Tajik government in 1997, rose to the rank of sergeant (colonel) and commanded one of the border detachments of the Murgab region on the border with Kyrgyzstan and China.
The government saw him as a popular leader and was afraid of him. That is, the authorities have always represented him as the leader of an organized criminal group and considered him a suspect in kidnapping, murder, robbery and sexual harassment. According to the data, from 1995 to 2022, 34 criminal cases were initiated against him.
However, the people knew well that these accusations were absolutely groundless, and all this further increased his authority. Muhammadbakir, continued to live his usual life, but eventually raised his voice against the injustice and tyranny of the government. In particular, in the events of November 2021 and May 2022, his name became more popular in connection with popular protests.
He knew very well that he could be killed at any moment on this dangerous road, but he did not deviate from his path and remained firm to the end in his promise and proudly sacrificed his life for the path of truth and freedom.
