Statement by the political movement “Group of 24” in connection with the detention of journalist Zavkibek Saidamini
The court of the Ismail Somoni district of Dushanbe ruled to deprive journalist Zavkibek Saidamini of freedom for 7 years. This time, the repressive power of Rakhmonov, on the basis of a fabricated and falsified case, imprisoned a journalist who spoke of the pain of the people and the shortcomings of society. Zawkibek Saidamini, like two other journalists: Abdullo Gurbati and Daleri Emomali, is found guilty of collaborating with the political movement “Group 24”.
Obviously, the authorities are very afraid of the awakening of the people and eliminate bold and independent journalists who oppose the cruelty of the authorities.
Such cases against journalists are widely publicized, as they are a warning to other journalists, bloggers, intellectuals and people in general. Law enforcement sends such people to prison, creating fake and rigged cases and reporting upstairs that they are fighting organizations and movements that are “dangerous” to the regime.
The political movement “Group of 24” has previously issued a statement in relation to journalists Abdullo Gurbati and Daler Emomali and said none of them were related to political movement “Group of 24”.
Today, we again officially declare that journalist Zawkibek Saidamini is also not a member of the political movement “Group of 24” and has never cooperated with this organization.
This point was emphasized in an interview with Radio Ozodi by the representative of the political movement “Group of 24” in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States Muhammadsobir Abdukahhor.
The political movement “Group 24” regards the detention of journalist Zavkibek Saidamini and his fabricated and falsified case as slander and weakness of the autocratic power of Rakhmonov. And we also categorically condemn the decision of the court in the case of Zavkibek Saidamini.
