On December 10, the whole world celebrates Human Rights Day. On this day, in 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

In Tajikistan, as well as throughout the world, various events dedicated to Human Rights Day are held on this day: round tables, conferences, etc. Central television channels cheerfully broadcast about these events, the main purpose of which is to educate the population. High-ranking officials proudly tell the people from the television screens: “The Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan guarantees its citizens the fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And all of us, as in democratic countries, have the basic value of human rights and freedoms. Relics of the past and some traditions sometimes contradict international norms, but if the world community helps us with money, then soon everything in our society will meet international standards. “

No matter how much the world community allocates money and expresses concern about the human rights situation in Tajikistan, nothing will change as long as Rakhmonov(The President of Tajikistan since 1994) seeks to maintain his power by any means and forces.

The world community has long been sounding the alarm about the human rights situation in Tajikistan. In November of this year, at the UN Human Rights Council during a discussion of the situation in Tajikistan, the US government noted the lack of progress in this area in Tajikistan and the need to urgently rectify the situation. The representative of the United States drew attention to flagrant human rights violations in connection with violence and harsh persecution of the opposition by the authorities, suppression of any dissent, as well as torture and inhuman conditions in prisons. As part of the discussion, the official government of Tajikistan was accused of eradicating independent media, restricting public access to the Internet and blocking many sites.

Once again, the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch this fall accused the Tajik government of violating all kinds of world agreements and standards in the field of human rights and called on the UN and the world community to pay attention to Tajikistan.

But Rakhmonov lives in his own world, writes his own laws and sets his own standards! Compliance with international human rights standards threatens the Rakhmonov authorities, and therefore ordinary Tajiks today have no guarantees of respect for fundamental human rights in the country.
