Lavrov’s visit to Tajikistan amid anti-migrant raids

Lavrov’s visit to Tajikistan amid anti-migrant raids.

On June 5-6, the Russian Foreign Minister paid an official visit to Tajikistan. At this time, raids and brutal detentions of Tajik migrants continued in Russia. At this time, in St. Petersburg, pre-trial detention cells were overcrowded with Tajiks.
For more than two weeks in Russia, law enforcement agencies have been rampaging against migrants from Tajikistan. Raids take place not only in Moscow and the Moscow region, but also in other regions of the country, it is known about precedents in the Samara region, St. Petersburg, Khabarovsk Territory. Under the scrutiny of the police, not only labor migrants, but also students from Tajikistan.
So in Komsomolsk-Amur, riot police broke into the hostel of a state university and beat more than 100 Tajik students.
Verification of documents is accompanied by humiliation of human dignity, violence and harsh detention.
The official bodies of the Russian Federation do not comment on this situation in any way.
And the official bodies of Tajikistan react to the atrocities of Russians somehow very gently. The Tajik Foreign Ministry only expressed concern.
Obviously, it is from Tajikistan that migrants are detained and beaten purposefully.
Ordinary people turned out to be victims of the political game, they are used as an instrument of pressure on the Rakhmonov government, or as a means of revenge.
According to experts, the Kremlin is thus trying to persuade Rakhmonov to join the Eurasian Economic Union. There is also an assumption that this situation is revenge for Dushanbe’s cooperation with the EU and for refusing to openly support Russia’s war in Ukraine.
But whatever the reason for the monstrous raids in Russia, there is only one culprit in all this – Rakhmonov. No, we do not remove the guilt from the Russian authorities and inhuman Russian law enforcement officers. But it was Rakhmonov who brought the population to impoverishment, it was because of him that our compatriots were forced to go to Russia so as not to starve and feed their families. Rakhmonov created a situation where he can be blackmailed, violating the rights of our citizens in a foreign country.
Rakhmonov appoints or allows the appointment of mediocre politicians and officials to public posts. It is such an incompetent and not at all patriotic that the current ambassador of Tajikistan to Russia is.
As the well-known human rights activist Karimjon Yorov says, “the ambassador is so passive that the embassy, one might say, exists only on paper.” The fact that Tajiks, unlike other migrants, are least protected by the authorities of their country, Yorov explains the mass detention of our compatriots.

But let’s return to Lavrov’s visit to Dushanbe.
The main topic of discussion was the Afghan issue, regional security and modernization of the armed forces of Tajikistan. Economic and trade issues were slightly touched upon, the visit of two deputy prime ministers Khusnullin and Overchuk was announced.
But what about the inhuman attitude of the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation towards Tajik migrants and mass raids? All this was raised, but we never heard any apologies, regrets and promises to sort out the situation from the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Lavrov simply said that the Russian government monitors what is happening, always meets Dushanbe halfway on labor migration issues and recalled the migration amnesty approved in previous years by the Russian authorities.
Well, our minister Mukhriddin, was not indignant, did not demand, but very delicately asked that the checks be carried out in compliance with the rights and freedoms of citizens of Tajikistan.
In general, the Russian authorities will continue to put pressure on Rakhmonov, using defenseless migrants. And the Tajik authorities will remain inactive, they do not care about their citizens both outside the country and in the country itself.
