On November 25, several dozen local residents gathered at the administration building of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region with a demand to punish those responsible for the death of Gulbiddin Ziyobekov. His body was brought to the administration building.
A resident of the village of Shokhdar, Ziyobekov was killed during a special operation of the security forces to detain him. Official authorities claim that Ziyobekov, as part of an organized group, took the assistant prosecutor of the Roshtkalinsky district hostage in February 2020, beat and tortured him for several hours. During the detention, he put up armed resistance, in connection with which he was wounded. Local residents have their own version of what happened: the accusations against the murdered person are exaggerated, the assistant prosecutor was beaten, standing up for the honor of a local resident, did not resist during the detention, was not armed, was simply shot in cold blood.
Local residents are shocked by what happened, the fact that human life is worth nothing, as well as the incompetence and permissiveness of the security forces. And they protest, first of all, against violence by law enforcement agencies. People want the authorities to hear them, so that those responsible for exceeding official powers that led to the death of a person are punished so that such tragedies do not happen again. But, as further events show, the authorities know no other methods than violence. Thus, during an attempt to disperse the protesters, several peaceful demonstrators were seriously injured, two of whom, Amirshoev Tutisho and Murodbekov Gulnazar, died.
Well, then, according to the scheme worked out by the Rakhmonov(The President of Tajikistan since 1994) regime: the Internet and mobile communications in the region were turned off. Instead of solving the problem, Rakhmonov’s absolutely idle proteges continue to heat up the situation.
Natives of the GBAO(Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region) also gathered at the building of the Tajik Embassy in Moscow on the evening of November 25 with demands to find those responsible for the deaths in Khorog, remove all roadblocks in the city, and restore mobile communications with the region. Despite a lengthy conversation with the ambassador, no intelligible response was received by the protesters. The rally continues.
The rally continues in Khorog, where all new participants continue to go from the districts. Local residents, seeing the reaction of the authorities to the events, put forward all new demands: remove the head of the region, withdraw most of the military and replace them with local residents, remove roadblocks, restore mobile communications and access to the Internet. The situation is heating up, but the mayor of Khorog in an interview with news channels says that everything is calm in the city. The standard behavior of the representative of the authorities of the Rakhmonov regime: lie to the last!
We express our solidarity to the people of Khorog in their quest for justice and freedom.
