Mr. Feridun Sinirlioğlu,
With due respect, we appeal to you to suspend the membership of the Republic of Tajikistan in the OSCE. The reason for this request is that the current government of Tajikistan, under the leadership of Rahmonov, consistently violates the fundamental principles and commitments of the OSCE.
In particular:
•Violation of democratic principles and human rights: Over the past 30 years, no free and democratic elections meeting international standards have been held in the country. These actions contradict the OSCE’s commitments to uphold human rights and fundamental freedoms.
•Restrictions on electoral transparency: In the most recent elections, the government denied OSCE observers and independent journalists the ability to monitor the electoral process, which is a clear violation of the principle of electoral transparency.
•Disregard for international cooperation: Over the past three years, the Republic of Tajikistan has not participated in OSCE conferences and has completely ignored the organization’s requirements and recommendations.
•Repression of the opposition and civil society: Political persecution and pressure on the opposition, civil society, and independent media have reached dangerous levels, which is contrary to human rights standards and democratic governance.
Given these circumstances, we urge the OSCE to consider suspending the Republic of Tajikistan’s membership in the organization until its authorities take concrete steps to fulfill their international commitments regarding democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
We hope that you will pay due attention to these issues and uphold the values on which the OSCE is founded.
Respectfully,
Dilshod Sharipov
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the political movement “Group 24”
